20 Best Female Characters In Comic Book Movies - Ranked

12. Gwen Stacy

The Amazing Spider-Man films scored a real coup in their casting of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, respectively. And while purists may have an issue with Garfield's cooler 'sk8r boi' Parker (who at least embodied the mouth of Spidey, when they let him talk), with Emma Stone they had the perfect Gwen Stacy.

Stone is fun, cute and hilarious as Pete's first love, the pair doing a great job of not making the Twilight-y elements of Amazing Spider-Man feel too obnoxious or shoehorned in. Sure, Stone's red hair and spunk may have made her a better Mary Jane, but she and her Gwen enlivened a pair of otherwise substandard superhero movies far more than we could reasonably have hoped. While the franchise did a good enough job of squandering its own promise, it effectively died with Gwen Stacy.
