20 Best Film Directors Of The Decade (So Far)
10. George Miller
2010s Films: Happy Feet 2, Mad Max: Fury Road
Upcoming Projects: None announced
OK, let's just ignore Happy Feet 2 here. Even though the first one was fine enough, the second is rather flightless. But that doesn't really matter, because what George Miller had been developing all through his crazy turn into family-friendly animation more than makes up for any career slip-ups.
On paper Mad Max: Fury Road was a far too typical example of the ridiculousness of modern Hollywood - a studio forking out a ridiculous amount of money on a new film in a series with minimal audience appeal - and yet in the hands of madman Miller it came together into the most thrilling summer blockbuster since Inception. Expertly constructed on almost every level - cinematography, editing, choreography, even its minimalist plot - it blows all previous films (and most of the action genre) out of the water and even managed to become a serious Oscar favourite.
