17. Prevenge

Anyone who saw the excellent Sightseers will already be a convert to the school of Alice Lowe's brilliance, but hopefully Prevenge will open her world up to more adoring fans.

The serial killer movie has a deliciously dark conceit - a pregnant woman compelled by her apparently blood-thirsty foetus attempts to gain revenge on a group of climbers who cut her partner loose during a climbing accident. It's simple, but the delivery works just as well as that almost breath-taking idea.

There's not quite the same sense of black comedy there was in Sightseers, but there is still a playfulness wrapped in the blood. It's almost like a British American Psycho, with the same detachment from reality and biting social commentary, and the fact it was filmed in just two weeks is astonishing.
