14. Ernest & Celestine

Based on Gabrielle Vincent's series of children's books, Ernest and Celestine is an utterly charming animated film about the unlikely friendship between a mouse and a bear, and though perhaps too slight for those raised on relentlessly loud, busy Hollywood animations, it is on its own visually gorgeous and absolutely wonderful. Though the cutesy story would have been enough to earn it a place on this list, some unexpectedly self-aware humour and a clever yet non-intrusive political undercurrent further makes this a movie fit for both children and adults alike.
