14. Calibre
Scooped up by Netflix after premiering on the festival circuit, Calibre is one of the year's most impressive genre films, albeit one which has mostly fallen upon deaf ears since releasing on the streaming platform this past summer.
A stomach-knottingly tense effort from debuting writer-director Matthew Palmer, Calibre follows two young men (Jack Lowden and Martin McCann) as a hunting trip in the Scottish Highlands goes horribly wrong. That's all you need to know about this chilling, superbly acted low-key thriller.
Palmer makes phenomenal use of not only his cast but also the eerie natural location, creating a toxic fog of isolation which causes the central characters to become ever more desperate to survive.
A tight, smart spin on a familiar premise, Calibre absolutely shouldn't be missed.
