8. Biometric Fingerprint Scanner (Diamonds Are Forever)
In 2015, the scene in which Tiffany Case opens her bedroom cupboard to reveal an enormous hidden fingerprint scanning machine may seem rather dated. After all, a fingerprint scanner is that thing you use to unlock your iPhone, isn't it? In 1971 however, a computerised database of fingerprints at your disposal was the thing of science-fiction. It's big, clunky, and has lots of flashing lights, which is perhaps the art department's way of reminding us that this thing is definitely cutting-edge. But the real reason this one makes the list is because of Bond's cunning to fool the gadget. Thanks to a set of false fingerprints, he assumes the identity of diamond smuggler Peter Franks. Just as the 007 universe is about to break out into the world of sci-fi, it's pulled back into the much more comfortable and appropriate world of secret agents and espionage.
