6. Attache Briefcase (From Russia With Love)
It didn't quite make the top five, but this is the gadget that started it all. With Desmond Llewellyn's debut as Q, who would remain in the role in every Bond film but one until 1999, came the first 'box of tricks'. The leather Attache case was originally featured in the novel of the same name, but by the time it reached Hollywood it came packed with a few extras. An AR7 Folding Snipers Rifle, fifty gold sovereigns, a throwing knife, and a tear gas cartridge were all discreetly hidden within, a concept not dissimilar to the concealed gadgets and weapons used by real life secret service agents. As would become apparent as the franchise progressed, the Attache case also started off the now long-standing tradition of Bond being saved by his gadgets. He uses the gold sovereigns to first bribe SPECTRE agent Red Grant as he is held at gunpoint aboard the Orient Express, then incapacitates him with the tear gas cartidge.
