Just three feature films into his career and director Damien Chazelle is already being hailed as one of the most visionary filmmakers of his generation. Hot on the success his award-winning second film Whiplash, Chazelle treated moviegoers to a piece of pure cinema magic this year in the form of La La Land – his modern-day homage to Hollywood musicals of yore starring star-crossed lovers Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds.

While the film is brimming with stunning cinematography from start to finish, one of its most memorable scenes is its opening song and dance number. Set on a stretch of freeway during Los Angeles’ infamously horrendous rush hour to the uplifting tune ‘Another Day in the Sun’, the breath-taking scene features hundreds of dancers and involved shutting down a freeway ramp for a whole weekend. No mean or inexpensive feat, and funnily enough the scene almost didn’t make the final cut but thank god it did because it’s a magical moment indeed.
