The tagline: ‘You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies.’
Another obsessive whose commitment to his work cost him his relationship is Mark Zuckerberg, if The Social Network is to be believed at least. Which it shouldn’t be.
As Fincher and Social Network scribe Aaron Sorkin would have it, Zuckerberg was inspired to create Facebook because of the dual failures of being passed over for entry into Harvard’s elite final clubs and the breakdown of his relationship with Erica Albright.
In truth, Zuckerberg was already dating Priscilla Chan – now his wife of four years – when he invented the social networking site that would change his world along with everyone else’s, and apparently cared little for such clubs. But artistic license is almost mandatory in biopic territory, and at least in this instance the end product was sublime.
Good tagline, too.
