7. Alien Vs. Predator
The tagline: ‘Whoever wins… we lose.’
Like the extraterrestrial creatures themselves, the Alien and Predator franchises don’t die easy.
Despite mixed reaction to his uneven Alien prequel, Prometheus director Ridley Scott is moving forward with confusingly titled follow-up Alien: Covenant, which should arrive in August 2017. Meanwhile Shane Black, who starred in the original Predator in 1987 and helped polish up the script ahead of production, is currently developing The Predator for its planned 2018 release.
Back when both franchises were floundering, 20th Century Fox took note of a Dark Horse Comics crossover featuring two of their properties and green-lit a big-screen smackdown. Despite a host of scathing reviews, Alien Vs. Predator was a modest success on its release in 2004 and did enough business to warrant Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem a few years later.
But the tagline is a belter and, in light of the movie’s overall reception, remarkably prescient to boot.
