20 Best Movies Of 2016
11. Paterson
The latest dramedy from Jim Jarmusch may not be the liveliest or most important movie of the year, but it takes a look at an extremely niche subject in pin-sharp detail, complemented by a fantastic lead turn from Adam Driver.
Part-character piece and part-meditation on the nature of art, Paterson is achingly human even though it's not full of melodramatic Oscar reel clips.
Constantly subverting genre tropes and offering up a unique perspective on being creative for one's own sake rather than to share it with others, this is a low-key winner even if it's probably too unassuming to get much Oscar love.
