9. The Endless

Filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead follow-up their excellent 2014 romantic body horror film Spring with this wonderfully enigmatic, ultra-suspenseful slow-burn about two brothers (Benson and Moorhead themselves) revisiting an apparent "UFO death cult" they were once members of.

Expertly slow-bled yet never frustratingly vague, The Endless digs down deep with its central characters as it piles on layer after layer of intrigue, leading to a gonzo third act that doesn't let its evidently low budget hamper its admirable ambition.

It may be too subtle and ambiguous for some, but as a poetic, unexpectedly affecting work, it's further proof that Benson and Moorhead are one of the most alluring indie filmmaking teams working today.
