Ghost Stories
Lionsgate

Anthology films are notorious for their inconsistency, so Ghost Stories' surprisingly steady treatment of its three interlinked plots is quite the pleasant surprise indeed.

Writer-directors Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson gamely adapt their acclaimed stage play for the screen here with terrific aplomb, aided by strong performances from Nyman, Alex Lawther, Paul Whitehouse and Martin Freeman.

The less you know about it going in the better, honestly, but be sure that it cleverly subverts a number of genre tropes with some nifty sleights of hand.

Deftly blending humour and suspense, Nyman and Dyson suggest they've got quite the bright future in horror here.
