7. Burning
If you didn't know it already, Burning confirms that Steven Yeun is one of the most underrated actors working today. In this South Korean psychological mystery drama, which was released in its own market in 2018 but hit Netflix in April, Yeun delivers an ambiguous, creepy performance that is once more a huge stand-out.
The film is a slow-burn affair and joins The Irishman in the slightly over-long run-time stakes, but that doesn't mean it overstays its welcome as we watch the unravelling mystery of the disappearance of the main character's neighbour and love interest.
But this isn't so much an exercise in crime solving as it is in exploring feelings. We're invited to experience Jong-su's jealousy and confusion as he meets and subsequently loses Hae-mi and it's all very atmospheric and beautiful in such a way that you're encouraged to not really trust your own perceptions.
