20 Best Movies Of 2019
6. Paddleton
Sad is definitely a big selling point in 2019 and Netflix scored their two biggest wins this year by tearing hearts out. The first of that pair, Paddleton, was easily one of the most profound, touching and devastating movies of the entire year. Ever, in fact.
With Ray Romano and Mark Duplass cast as a pair of long-time best friends who together deal with the latter's cancer diagnosis and decision to end his life so he doesn't suffer, it started very well. And make no mistake, this is not a hand-wringing journey seeking to moralise the right to die, it's more a reflective, intoxicating meditation on life, love and friendship.
It's bleek and beautiful in equal measure and watching them come to terms with death and the end of their friendship is as hard-hitting as watching the final moments. When the credits roll, you'll feel something like you've had your soul wrung out.
