2019 was the year of Eddie Murphy's resurgence. Not only did he return to SNL in the last weeks of the year to huge fanfare and equal acclaim, but he also made a great movie.

The film in question follows legendary comedy character Dolemite - the creation of Rudy Ray Moore as a last gasp grab at fame after years of grifting on the edge of success - who is outrageous, vulgar and hugely popular in equal measure.

Murphy's performance as the star as he grapples with an industry that rejects him despite his sales figures and how he clashes with prevailing white culture is truly wonderful and hopefully this spells a return to form for him.
