14. The Fallout

Top Gun Maverick Everything Everywhere All At Once Banshees of Inisherin
HBO Max

A compassionate, intimate examination of a deeply upsetting and frustratingly current topic, The Fallout follows a high schooler, Vada (Jenna Ortega), in the wake of a shooting at her school.

Though we've seen plenty of films about this subject, it's tough to recall any that probe so empathetically into the mind of a youngster battling against the tidal wave of PTSD.

Jenna Ortega is superb in the lead role, embodying a young woman spiritually broken by her traumatic experience and struggling to put the pieces back together.

Though not graphic, it's a deeply unsettling sit regardless and so not for the faint of stomach, especially as it can't offer up answers for a problem that continues to pervade throughout the U.S.
