13. Bones & All

Top Gun Maverick Everything Everywhere All At Once Banshees of Inisherin
United Artists

It goes without saying that Luca Guadagnino's cannibal horror-romance Bones and All won't be for all tastes (sorry), but for those willing to follow its tortured leads on their hellish journey, it makes for one of the year's most unexpectedly affecting treats.

A road movie like no other, Bones and All certainly doesn't lack for gory violence, but is far more intently concerned with the central relationship between Maren (Taylor Russell) and Lee (Timothée Chalamet).

Russell and Chalamet's natural chemistry makes it easy to buy into their love story despite its fraught context, while Mark Rylance steals every scene he's in as a deranged older cannibal with deeply questionable intent.

Unlike almost every film ever made about people eating other people, this has a real, beating heart underneath the blood-letting, resulting in a truly unforgettable cinematic outing.
