20 BEST Movies On Disney+

6. Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers Endgame
Marvel Studios

This film was mighty close to topping the list here, with one significant flaw outside of the Directors control costing it the gold. The actual film itself is close to perfection, seamlessly switching between multiple storylines and progressing (and concluding) numerous character arcs.

The evil Thanos is front and centre throughout, James Brolin bringing a more thoughtful and contemplative villain than the comics, without losing any of the mad Titan's venom. Chris Hemsworth is extraordinary as the mourning Thor, while Downey Jnr. is brilliant again in displaying the conflict between his personas of Tony Stark the man and Iron Man the hero.

The surprising MVP for the movie is Zoe Saldana as Gamora, adding significant gravitas to proceedings, especially in the more lighthearted 'Guardians' scenes. Her death really packs a punch, as does the deaths of several other periphery characters, with more of a sense of permanency than previous MCU adventures.

The fight sequences are up to the normal outstanding MCU standards, the battle in Wakanda a clear highlight. The 'fighting against the odds' nature of the battle keeps the stakes high, while also allowing for Thor to finally be the all powerful being we'd been waiting to see.

The only problem with the film is that what should have been a stunning ending feels like an anticlimax, mainly thanks to the deaths of characters we knew were returning in future MCU entries. It's a real shame, as keeping the likes of Black Panther and Spiderman alive would have raised the stakes significantly.
