20 Best Movies Starring The Friends Cast
10. Nothing But the Truth (David Schwimmer)
If the studio behind Rod Lurie's journalistic thriller Nothing But the Truth hadn't gone bankbrupt before its planned and subsequently cancelled theatrical release, Kate Beckinsale might've been in the Oscar conversation for her fantastic performance as a reporter dragged through the legal mud by the U.S. government for refusing to disclose one of her sources.
Despite being dumped direct to DVD in most regions, the film does a fantastic job walking through the finer points of the freedom of the press debate, enlivened by easily one of the strongest performances of Beckinsale's entire career.
David Schwimmer appears in a supporting capacity as Beckinsale's increasingly unsympathetic husband character, though the heavy dramatic lifting alongside Beckinsle is done by the exemplary Vera Farmiga and Alan Alda.
Unlike the glut of uninspired legal thrillers released every year, this one packs a uniquely impactful punch.
