Stephen King's 2010 novella gets a patient, brooding adaptation largely thanks to the efforts of a terrific Thomas Jane, whose performance as murderously-minded farmer Wilfred "Wilf" James ranks among the best of any recent King movie.

Though neither as energetic nor as pulpy as other Netflix Original horror hits, there's a refreshingly quiet stillness to much of the movie, building slowly and putting its characters ahead of excess incident.

It looks terrific, drips with atmosphere in every moment, and is exactly the sort of low-key horror movie that wouldn't ever get made without the existence of streaming services.

While some fans have understandably argued that the relatively brief source material would be better-suited to a shorter TV episode, writer-director Zak Hilditch nevertheless sustains the 101-minute runtime well.
