20 Best Netflix Original Movies Of 2019 - Ranked

4. Dolemite Is My Name

Eddie Murphy Dolemite Is My Name
Netflix

Dolemite Is My Name - alternatively titled Eddie Murphy: The Return - is a pleasure to watch because it reaffirms that, yes, Murphy really is as talented as the likes of Dreamgirls and Beverly Hills Cop suggested, and that some of his recent crappy efforts like Norbit, A Thousand Words and Meet Dave were perhaps just projects that he didn't have a lot of faith in.

A biopic charting the career of multi-talented entertainer Rudy Ray Moore, Dolemite Is My Name is one of the best performances of Murphy's career, with the actor's charm and endearing optimism proving an irresistible draw, infecting the screen, his co-stars, and, inevitably, you.

It's clear that everyone had a blast making this movie, and it's likely that Murphy was a big reason for that. It's great to see what he can accomplish when he actually cares, and the resulting movie is a riotously good time in front of the telly that you will not want to miss.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
