20 Best Opening Scenes From Recent Horror Movies
10. Keeper
Osgood Perkins' new film Keeper may have split critics and general audiences straight down the middle, but most will agree that it kicks off with one hell of a tantalising opening sequence.
The very first scene is a visually stunning montage of numerous beautiful women being observed by an unseen force from a first-person perspective.
Though the women seem initially receptive to whoever is looking at them, the tone of the montage quickly turns sinister as the women appear distressed and even scared, before it climaxes with fleeting glimpses of their faces splashed with blood.
The scene may only be about 90 seconds in total and we don't learn what it really means until near the end of the film, but it so efficiently establishes a sinister mood from the outset, no matter that it's largely divorced from the central two-hander between Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland.
Perkins has always had a knack for unique, atmospheric imagery, and he demonstrates that in spades here.
