20 Best Sci-Fi Films Of The 21st Century
9. The One I Love
The One I Love gives an original spin on your standard romantic movie formula. It asks the audience what exactly you're willing to do for love. If you'd take an easy fix or if you're willing to accept the fact that - unlike in the movies, ironically - love requires maintenance and a lot of very hard work. And are you willing to put in that work?
Mark Duplass and Elizabeth Moss each play dual roles pretty much throughout and are both incredible. Moss in particular has a world weariness to her that only comes with having every test a marriage or relationship can throw at you, yet also manages to retain the spirit of someone desperate to make it work with the person she loves.
Not a single narrative beat is missed in The One I Love either, as the story manages to shift from a somewhat philosophical romantic drama to something verging on a tense psychological thriller so deftly that it's almost a blink-and-you'll-miss-it situation.
Plus, you get to see the inside of Ted Danson's actual house. So that's pretty cool.
