20 Best Sci-Fi Films Of The 21st Century
7. Attack The Block
Now, we've all had to walk past a group of goddamn teenagers, we all know how anxiety inducing that is, even if they don't pull a knife on us. We're willing to bet, however, that said group of intimidating teenagers wouldn't become your cohorts against an invasion of...alien, bear-dog...things.
Attack the Block is such a solid action flick and is very much in the vein of Shaun of the Dead in the sense that, well, it makes you feel like maybe you, a regular old Joe, might just be able to hold your own during an alien invasion.
It shares more than that with Shaun of the Dead, however - beyond gut-busting laughs and Nick Frost being...well, Nick Frost. It also has a surprising amount of depth. Just as Shaun is introduced as a listless deadbeat when, in fact, he's a good dude who just failed to live up to his potential, so too is Moses introduced as nothing more than a violent thug. Later on, we see Moses being told time and time again that he's a waste of space and that he only ever brings trouble. Attack on The Block actually has a surprising amount to say about how easily we as a society give up on "problem" children.
