20 Best Sci-Fi Horror Movies Of The 21st Century

14. Donnie Darko

The logic behind Donnie Darko's inclusion is thusly: "If it's got time travel in it, it's a sci-fi film".

Although some may argue it's not a horror film per se, it does have a creepy entity in a twisted looking bunny suit in it. So it's being counted.

When it comes to this early century hit, chances are you fall into one of two categories: You've seen it and you've forced it upon people, or you've refused to watch it because people kept banging on about it.

The thing is, Donnie Darko is worth the hype, even if the hipsters do bray on about it too much.

A supernaturally dark tale about a troubled young man stuck in a time paradox, led by the mysterious Frank, it needs a few viewings to get your head around it.

Why does the titular hero have deity-like powers?

Why don't we see the extent of them, or is that the point?

What would happen if Donnie hadn't fixed the paradox, or was he always predestined to...?

It's sombre, it's dark, it's got a soundtrack that has both Tears for Fears and Echo & The Bunnymen on it... what's not to love?
