Disney operate a rather unique release method for their animated classics. Instead of having movies available constantly (as is the norm), they release films from their 'Vault' for a set period of time. That's why you can only ever purchase a certain few of the studio's movies at any one time. As well as allowing for higher prices (they're harder to find items), this can lead to splurge buying. Rather than waiting for prices to drop as you'd expect, customers dive in straight away lest the film be pulled before they can buy. This, coupled with Beauty And The Beast's immense legacy, has to be the reason why it has proven so successful.
