20 Best Superhero Movies Since The Dark Knight
1. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
At first, this might seem like an odd choice for number one. After all, this is a meta, animated spin-off flick marketed towards younger audiences and not attached to any of the big franchises, so it might seem bizarre to put this ahead of all these other flicks.
But... this being number one would only seem strange to those who haven't seen the movie.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is in a class of its own. It might've looked like just a family film at first glance and sure, there's no doubt that younger viewers will adore the hell out of this movie. It's got insanely brilliant action scenes, hilarious gags and some of the most exquisite, stunning animation you'll ever see but all that being said, it's the adult viewers who will probably appreciate this film the most.
It's difficult to think of any other superhero film which has offered such an affecting, beautifully written origin story or any film that has explored the entire concept of being a superhero in such a wise, poignant manner.
Into the Spider-Verse has it all. It's got thrills, it's got laughs, it's got escapism, it's got darkness, it's got compelling lore, it's got awesome visuals and it's got an absolute ton of storytelling heft.
A technical tour-de-force and a masterpiece of storytelling, Into the Spider-Verse offers everything you'd want from a superhero film and more, and as such this is easily the greatest superhero movie since The Dark Knight. Bring on the sequels.
