15. Ed Norton
Best: American History X (1998) Fight Club was great and everything, but that's Brad Pitt's film, and American History X is all about Norton's stunning transformation from wholesome suburban boy to white supremacist villain and back. 17 years on, the explosive drama remains his best work, even if Birdman does push hard. In that revelation alone is proof of Norton's ability: the roles couldn't be any more different. Worst: Pride & Glory (2008) A rip-off of The Departed (and every other corrupt cop movie ever), which promotes profanity above all else and singularly fails to offer anything new.
