13. Keira Knightley
Best: Atonement (2007) The prospect of adapting the sprawling, grand novel was always going to be tough, but in capturing the human emotion of the story as well as the nimble beauty of Ian McEwan's original source, the film found some success. Yes, it's a little uneven, but it's so laden with authentic feeling that it's impossible to resist, and a significant proportion of that comes down to Knightley's immensely sad performance. Worst: Silk (2007) Another historical adaptation, but this time immeasurably boring, entirely wayward and utterly disappointing. It tries to be quite raunchy, but the end result is just hollow and baffling.
