2. Sam Rockwell

Best: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)

Sam Rockwell should have won a lot more awards by now, and this year looks like the one in which he'll walk away with his Oscar, but it won't be for a lack of good performances.

He's been excellent in Moon, The Green Mile, The Way, Way Back and even Iron Man 2, but they aren't quite as good as his turn in Three Billboards...Given great material by Martin McDonagh he's on career-best form and he's just as good as Frances McDormand.

Worst: G-Force (2009)

Presumably because vocal work on animations is easy, Rockwell weirdly turned up as Darwin - the leader of a team of special Guinea Pigs sent to save the world in this 2009 animation.

It's one of Disney's poorer animations and it really scrapes the bottom with poor gags and way too many fart jokes by badly animated family pets. Luckily, it's pretty easy to forget.
