3. Inside Out

Who's involved? While The Good Dinosaur has proved a troublesome production, Pixar's other current film has been far plainer sailing, enough that Inside Out, originally due for release a year later than The Good Dinosaur, will now be arriving a few months before. Monsters Inc. and Up director Pete Docter conceived of the story and the script has been written by Toy Story 3's Michael Arndt, with Docter to direct. The voice cast is made up of well regarded TV comedy stars including Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Lewis Black (The Daily Show), Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project), Phyllis Smith (The Office) and Bill Hader (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs). What's the story? One of Pixar's more original and unusual conceits, Inside Out takes place in the head of its protagonist, a pre-teen girl named Riley whose happy life in Minnesota is replaced by new challenges when her family move to San Francisco. The main characters, then, are embodiments of abstract concepts and emotions, so it will be interesting to see how Docter and the Pixar team develop the struggle in Riley's mind between Joy (Poehler), Anger (Black), Disgust (Kaling), Sadness (Smith) and Fear (Hader).
