20 Biggest Movies Of 2016: What Do We Already Know?
14. Doctor Strange
Release Date: November 4, 2016. Who's Involved: Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil) directs, while Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer (both of whom wrote Sahara and Conan the Barbarian) and Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) write the script. Benedict Cumberbatch stars, and Chiwetel Ejiofor is reportedly in talks for a major part. What's The Story?: Doctor Strange is a brilliant (yet overwhelmingly arrogant) surgeon who, when his career is left in tatters, is recruited by a sorcerer to help defend the world from magical evil. The film will chart Strange's rise to the title of Sorcerer Supreme. Will It Be Any Good?: The writing credits are definitely dubious and Derrickson tends to live and die by his scripts, though the director does have a keen visual eye, and Cumberbatch is pretty good at weeding out bad projects. Plus, even the worst MCU films are still totally watchable, as they seem to be running a pretty tight ship. Expect three stars, and be pleasantly surprised if it's much better.
