20 Biggest Things The Harry Potter Movies Left Out

6. Grawp Attacks (And The Giants)

In The Book

After first appearing in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Grawp makes a couple of appearances later in the series. He's present at Dumbledore's funeral (in a suit no less), and is markedly more tame and compassionate than he initially was.

And then he plays a key part in the Battle Of Hogwarts, where he almost single-handedly fought Voldemort's entire group of giants (admittedly with help from Thestrals and Buckbeak - all of which were also removed from the Battle).

In The Film

After his first appearance, Grawp is removed from the films, never appearing at the funeral or the Battle. He wasn't actually needed though, since only a few Giants ended up joining Voldemort's forces and were dealt with surprisingly easily, robbing the final Battle of one its most spectacular elements.

Was It A Positive Cut?

Let's be honest, Grawp looked a bit ropey in the films, which is why he was swathed in darkness so much, so it probably wasn't a hard decision to save the massive budgetary requirements needed for him by cutting him. JK Rowling actually said she knew he was posing the film-makers problems when she wrote him in, so she too probably wasn't at all surprised.
