The Original: McClane is forced to wear a sandwich board by the crazed villains, proclaiming that he "hates n*ggers" in an area of New York populated chiefly by African Americans, as a conscious effort to get him hurt.
The Ridiculous Redub... As the image below proves, the TV edit took out the single most important element of the entire story arc, and made McClane's enforced stand 100% less provocative.
15. American Pie
The Original Line: This one time, at band camp, I stuck a flute in my p*ssy.
The Ridiculous Redub: This one time, at band camp, I stuck a flute in my mouth. Yeah... And?! The whole point was that Michelle led a secret sordid sub-life, doing profoundly perverted things at Band Camp while Jim and his buddies struggled to get any action at all, protected by the outward projection that she was an impossibly doomed band geek. The decision to rob her of her most famous line completely derails the character, and actually reinforces her status as a band geek, which makes Jim's subsequent reactions to her beyond baffling. Why would he be so shocked and intrigued by her playing an instrument exactly as intended?
