20 Comic Book Movies That Are Practically Flawless
4. Logan (2017)
After attempting to give Wolverine his own solo sub-series within the continuity of the X-Men franchise and failing miserably, Marvel decided to mix things up by bringing in Hugh Jackman for an Old Man Logan movie set in an alternate future.
Directed by James Mangold and based on the comics by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, Logan defies genre conventions at every turn by giving audiences a story that portrays its remaining heroes as much more vulnerable and painfully human than the previous films made them appear.
Gritty and relentlessly bleak, the film primarily follows Wolverine as he meets his daughter X-23 (Dafne Keen) and attempts to save her from becoming a weapon, like he once was. In this relationship, the film becomes surprisingly hopeful amongst the carnage, and ends with a visceral gut-punch.
As a standalone superhero movie, an X-Men sequel, and a final farewell to Hugh Jackman's career-defining performance, Logan is simply spotless.
