Whether it's shooting entirely in natural light or faking a single shot movie (more on that later), director Alejandro González Iñárritu and his regular cinematographer Emmanuel "Chivo" Lubezki seem determined to push forward the possibilities of virtuosic filmmaking in the 21st century.

There are a number of great tracking shots throughout The Revenant but perhaps the most obviously complicated one comes at the beginning, as Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) and his fellow trappers come under attack by Arikara Indians. Primarily tracking Glass, the camera occasionally veers away to soak up more of the action, and the choreography must have been painstaking.
