Jean Luc Godard might not have managed to successfully sustain himself as self-proclaimed challenger to cinematic conventions throughout his entire career, but we have him to thank for some familiar filmmaking techniques, for instance jump cuts, refined in his debut Breathless.

Another great film from his earlier period is Weekend, a searing satire on the breakdown of modern society which features a wonderful tracking shot following the protagonists and taking in pedestrians and stuttering cars, trapped in a Hellish traffic jam on a remote French lane.
