In the early 2000s it looked as if a contender for the spot of best action spy film franchise might have finally come along to take Bond down a peg or two. Adapted from the Robert Ludlum novel and directed by Doug Liman, The Bourne Identity stars Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, the former CIA assassin suffering from memory loss as he attempts to recover his identity and untangle a conspiracy within his former agency. The Bourne films certainly hold their own against the best of James Bond (notwithstanding the mediocre "reboot" starring Jeremy Renner) and with The Bourne Identity Liman proved himself more than capable of staging a fast and exciting car chase. The busy streets of Paris provide the twists, turns and obstacles as Bourne evades the police and countless pedestrians. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypt3XtV6od4
