Michael Bay might have fallen out of favour with even the most forgiving of action movie fans in recent years, preferring to assault our eyes, ears and sense of good taste with the risible Transformers movies, but there was once a time when he directed some solid, entertaining action films. The Rock was certainly one of his best efforts. Starring Nicolas Cage, Sean Connery and Ed Harris it featured a number of stand-out action set pieces, not least the crazy car chase through the undulating streets of San Francisco.
