20 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Transformers Franchise

15. Mark Wahlberg Should've Been The Protagonist All Along

The saddest thing about watching Age of Extinction is that it becomes painfully apparent that Mark Wahlberg, as inventor protagonist Cade Yaeger, probably should have been the series lead all along. Infinitely more likeable and entertaining than Shia LaBeouf's relatively obnoxious and annoying Sam, Wahlberg wouldn't be able to milk the whole "boy and his toy" shtick that actually kinda worked in the original Transformers, but audiences wouldn't have had to deal with Sam's various romantic pairings, and above all else, Wahlberg is just a total bada**. Looking back at the annoyance of all the romance, Sam's parents and seeing the stick-thin Sam hurled around like a ragdoll without sustaining any serious injuries, one can't help but think that the series would have been in better hands with a more adult, paternal, manly presence from the very start.
