5. Henry Evans - The Good Son (1993)
Well first off, you wouldn't want to be a parent to Macauley Culkin full stop. And Macauley Culkin as a murdering psychopathic creepy kid? As Iron Maiden sang - run to the hills. Macauley, to give him his dues, does an expert job in portraying Henry Evans in The Good Son. His facade of niceness and politeness is very convincing and he does a good job as to hiding his true nature to those around him. So much so, that when he shows his sociopathic nature, it comes across as a big surprise to the viewer. Over the course of the film Henry shows an obsession with death and he forces his cousin Mark into silence about his malevolent thoughts and behaviour by making ominous threats. He tries to kill his little cousin Connie twice, and it eventually becomes clear that he killed his own brother. His mother - Susan - asks him outright if he killed his brother and Henry sneers "So what if I did?". His eventual cliff top death was a relief because I couldn't stand watching the smarmy little git run rings around everyone anymore. The Good Son is not a widely discussed film which is probably due to our collective inability to face up to the fact that some children may be pure evil. Childhood innocence is a sacred cow in our culture. In the film, it is enjoyable to watch Henry's mother gradually twig on to the fact her son is a psychopath. What would we do in her scenario? Turf him off a cliff like the little s**t deserves. To hell with good parenting!
