20 Most Cringeworthy Moments In The New Star Trek Movies
5. Marcus' "War Is Coming" Speech
We love Peter Weller. We honestly do. But he's not known for the subtlety of his performances, which is why he's probably the perfect choice to play the insane Admiral Marcus. There is one scene in the second movie, though, that makes us wonder what an actor less given to shouting and more given to steely anger would have done with it. Clint Eastwood, for example, though he'd be more likely to give a speech to his captain's chair. It occurs when Kirk, Khan, and Scotty make their way to the bridge of the dreadnought and Kirk confronts Marcus. Marcus' speech sounds great on paper. But when it's delivered with Peter Weller's inflections, as if he's berating a recalcitrant teenager for having done something really stupid, it doesn't. Shame there's not a clip out there to show you - though, if that scene effects you half as much as it does us, you don't need reminding, and you're not happy about said fact.
