20 Most Cringeworthy Moments In The New Star Trek Movies
17. Tyler Perry's Star Trek
After the last article, a few people asked why we hadn't included Christian Slater's cameo from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country on the list. Frankly, we forgot about it - and it didn't strike us as particularly cringey at the time. Sure, it was a strange intrusion of the "real" world into the world of Trek - assuming you believe in Christian Slater's existence - but it didn't feel particularly out of place. Also, once the initial gasp of recognition died down, the scene went on and ended fairly quickly. The Tyler Perry cameo in Star Trek, by contrast... If anyone had the dubious pleasure of seeing Star Trek in a theater, they will likely remember the first few minutes of Kirk's disciplinary hearing as an exercise in trying to make out the dialogue over the whispers, cries, and occasional screams of "Oh my GAWD it's Tylah Perraayyy!" Granted, you'll be more likely to be showing your friend this movie on DVD or Blu-ray in the comfort of your own home. But if they've seen any of the Madea movies, you're just as likely to have to explain for the next two minutes or so why Perry's there, why it doesn't matter, why it's so damned annoying... And then you'll have to rewind and watch the whole thing again because no one was listening to the dialogue, which makes it all worse. At the very least he wasn't in character as Madea for this cameo. Come to think of it, that might've been mildly amusing...
