Such is the case with Vampire Academy, which had a pretty boss Bauhaus cover by Chvrches over the end credits, a neat premise a private girl's school for vampires! - and a script by Daniel Waters. As in, Daniel Waters who wrote Heathers. That eighties black comedy brilliantly skewered the true nature of high school and adolescence, but he's struggled to have a similar hit since. Vampire Academy looked like it could've been his comeback with the director of Mean Girls, too instead, it just sucked. Choice review quote: This is a garbage heap of weak quips, delivered by an assortment of pretty boys and girls and amped up with some cheesy moments of animal cruelty. (Chicago Reader)
