20 Most Critically Reviled Films Of 2014

1. Left Behind

2% - 59 Reviews The premise of this apocalyptic, fundamentalist action film is that the Biblical Rapture has occurred, and those who didn't live their life in a totally Christian way have been €œleft behind€ on the purgatorial Earth while the faithful ascend to heaven. Everyone involved with making this film will be among the former. Including, again, Nicolas Cage. This is a movie that shouldn't exist. Left Behind is a long-running series of low budget films mainly screened in churches as sort of religious propaganda. Tired of literally preaching to the literally converted, they decided to go big-budget, and appeal to the sinful multiplex-going masses. What they did was remind everybody that the devil not only has the best tunes, but also the best films. And better wigs than Cage can manage, too. Probably. Choice review quote: €œAt worst, it's profoundly moronic. Audiences, Christian or not, deserve better, and it's hard to imagine that the ham-fisted revelations in this schlock could serve any higher purpose.€ (Entertainment Weekly)
