20 Depraved Movies Only Truly Sick Individuals Could Enjoy

The term “Muzan-e” roughly translates as “pictures of cruelty”, and refers to a type of woodblock print that has existed in Japan for centuries, depicting scenes of extreme sadism and sexual violence. The trend continues to this day in the form of subversive manga and transgressive cinema, which Japan can still churn out by the truckload in its sleep. In Daisuke Yamanouchi’s Muzan-E (aka Celluloid Nightmares), this concept is envisioned as the ultimate form of morally bankrupt entertainment: the snuff movie.

Shot like A Current Affair styled exposé, Muzan-E follows Kazuyo Fujimori (Yuki Emoto), a reporter, as she covers the disappearance of Mai Tsurumi – a popular AV (Adult Video) star who featured in many menstruation fetish videos. Yes, you read that right – menstruation fetish videos. There is a rumor that Tsurumi was the unwilling star of a snuff video that circulated after her disappearance. Kazuyo manages to find a copy of the tape and attempts to track down Tsurumi’s murderers.

When Kazuyo does come face to face with Tsurumi’s captors she is forced to participate in her very own snuff film, and it's not a pretty sight. Owing a huge debt to such films as Videodrome and The Last House On Dead End Street, Muzan-E is a toxic mix of extreme influences - truly rough stuff.
