17. NEKRomantik (1987)
Rob works for an agency that cleans up dead bodies from the road. He is a necrophiliac who brings home body parts for his equally necrophiliac girlfriend Betty. One day he hits paydirt and brings home an entire corpse with which he indulges in menages a trois with Betty. The next day Rob gets fired from work for his scuzzy behaviour and tardiness. We see Betty reading the corpse a story and then she sits on its face (!). Rob informs Betty he has been fired and she is raging. She takes the corpse and buggers off leaving Rob to kill the cat in his fury and then bathe in its entrails. Bob tries to kill himself but fails to croak it permanently. He gets a prostitute and brings her to the grave yard, strangles her and has sex with her corpse. Rob virtually decapitates an old man who discovers him in the cemetery. Rob stabs himself whilst he is masturbating and in the final frames, we see someone start to dig up his body from the grave.. Corpse F**king Art - this is the self proclaimed assessment of his own work by Jorg Buttgereit. Definitely the strongest title on this list, NEKRomantik doesn't lay off the ick factor throughout the course of the film. There is something perverse going on on the screen at all times of the movie. Obviously intended to shock, Buttgereit amply achieves this aim as we are treated to threesomes with a corpse and bathing in cat innards. The film has a certain style and visual flair which marks it out as a very unique film. Personally, it didn't offend me but I can see why many people get grossed out by this rotting piece of Euro Horror.
