20 Essential Movie Performances That Will Define 2015

11. Philip Seymour Hoffman - Plutarch Heavensbee (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2)

Release Date: November 20 The Movie: The concluding chapter in the Hunger Games franchise, in which Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and District 13 take their last stand against the increasingly aggressive Capitol. The Role: Hoffman has played rebel commander Plutarch Heavensbee in the last two movies, and the character plays a pivotal part in the events that bring the series to a close. Why It'll Define 2015: Because it's the last time Hoffman will be seen on-screen, considering he died last February and was mid-way through shooting his part here. Due to Hoffman having important dialogue left to shoot, it has instead been given to other characters, which while deviating from the source material, is probably the "cleanest" way to deal with a very sad situation. Though it remains to be seen how much screen time Hoffman will get, and it's unlikely to be one of his best performances, it's going to be a bittersweet farewell all the same.
