20 Fantastic Blimps, Balloons, And Dirigibles In Movies

7. Black Sunday (1977)

Up (animated film)
Paramount Pictures

Not to be confused with the Mario Bava horror film, this Black Sunday is a thriller about a man planning to blow up Super Bowl X using the Goodyear blimp, and even with the terrorist plot and the dark subject matter, the film somehow actually shot at the real Super Bowl X and used the real Goodyear blimp.

Based on a novel by Silence of the Lambs author Thomas Harris, the story of Mossad and FBI agents pursuing the world’s slowest-moving vehicle really shouldn’t work. But a cast including Robert Shaw and Bruce Dern and taut direction from the always-reliable John Frankenheimer make for a suspenseful ride that was inspired by the real-life Munich Olympics massacre.
